About The Artwork

This is a beautiful drawing created with a 3D pen of tree branches silhouetted against the sky. Working with a 3D pen is literally drawing with plastic. I prefer to use flexible filament because it's super strong and and can be manipulated into a rubbery but delicate lace-like fabric. I created a circle of closely linked loops in transparent TPU filament to form the structure/background. The branches and leaves are drawn onto the transparent "fabric" with black filament. The artwork has been securely attached to a large, sturdy hoop which measures 60cm. This piece looks wonderfully stylish and the transparent filament appears to disappear against a white background. My 3D pen drawings need to be displayed on a light coloured, plain wall. They are very light in weight, easy to hang and an occasional flick with a feather duster keeps them pristine.

Paula grew up in the beautiful city of York in the United Kingdom and was employed as a textile designer in the early years of her working life. Art has always been a constant and she has explored and experimented with many conventional and unconventional materials. The first sculptures she sold were made out of bread dough which were baked and varnished. These pieces proved so popular that she was able to pursue her dream of being a self employed artist and sold her work successfully through art fairs and markets. Eventually Paula discovered coloured hot melt glue sticks which was an unexplored and really exciting medium to work with. She managed to incorporate wire into the melted glue and was able to form amazing sculptures which were exhibited in many galleries including The Yorkshire Sculpture Park. Further experimentation resulted in the glue guns being used on canvas with the glue replacing acrylic paint which she’d previously used. These sculptural paintings (animal portraits and landscapes) have also enjoyed great success and have been shipped as far and wide as the USA and Australia. One of her beautiful horse paintings was featured on the cover of Equestrian Trade News magazine. More recently Paula has enjoyed working with her latest discovery, the 3D Printer Pen. This ingenious little device allows the artist to draw with melted plastic. Once the filament has cooled, the drawing is a permanent artwork which will hold its shape and can be hung from a dowel or professionally framed. These wall hangings have a lace-like quality and they can be categorized as sculpture and drawing as they are both. For the last four years Paula has lived in Wensleydale and has drawn her art inspiration from the local breath taking countryside and wildlife.
