Corset-Suffering and Passion- I dedicated my work to Frida Kahlo Sculpture

Through my project I wanted to remain about well known, Mexican artist; Frieda Kahlo who inspired me during my years long artistic journey and to who I wanted to dedicate the piece of art I created. “Suffering and Passion”; sculpture and emotional landscape, metaphor and symbolism. It is about strong personality, about passion and also about sensitivity of the artist. I have chosen metal as a symbol power, red and gold colors are about suffering and enormous charisma of which Frieda Kahlo was recognizable. As we can notice the spine has not been built up in a straight lane and, I have not chosen any solid materials – it is foamed polystyrene showing off fragility and pain. Delicate, tiny wires coming away from the spine are the metaphor of nerves. The bottom of the sculpture I dressed up with string and metallic material. I made it on purpose. It is another metaphor of fragility. Metallic material is like spire’s web very easy to destroy. There were three main sources of Kahlo’s suffering car accident that causes spine’s damage and serious injury to the body. With regards to this Frieda was unable to give birth. My sculpture as a whole makes up a symbolic construction shaped as a corset. Each element harmonizes with one another creating solid construction.
