Degree Show 2011 Sculpture

‘Anti-Sculpture’ features five fabric envelopes that momentarily inflate, challenging the permanence of sculptural form. Rather than using techniques that reduce a materials size to create a stable structure, here we see the process of inflation used to add volume and construct temporary shape. It is important for me that my work visually translates, that the concept can be understood internationally, just by viewing it. During the course of ascension and descension these fabric envelopes remain unpredictable in identity, evading consistency even when flat. Through investigating the potential of volume, the semi-permanence of these objects is highlighted in the before, the during and the after.
