About The Artwork
Henry VIII is the representation of the English king, second monarch Tudor. In the early days he was a fierce opponent of Luther's theories, and for this reason he obtained the title of Defensor Fidei, or "Defender of the Faith." Later, however, he came to an irremediable contrast with Pope Clement VII and founded the Anglican Church. Mannequin wears the typical headgear of the time and a "fake" coat of transparent plastic, adorned with fur on the neck. The male corset in lattex indicates its fixation with sex and the search for the male child that led him to have six wives , some repudiated and others beheaded with the accusation of adultery.The corset also hides the large belly typical of the king.
