About The Artwork
In the spring of 1982 they gave me the Corte Inglés award, this was an award for painting that was established in Malaga when the department stores were installed in the city. I was very well endowed and this helped me to travel for a year. After this time I made the decision not to go to study fine arts in Seville as I intended and dedicate myself only to painting. That painting called: "Spasms on the Bus". It was the ticket to enter the roller coaster that has lasted four decades and from which I have no intention of getting off. En la primavera de 1982 me dieron el premio del Corte Inglés, éste era un premio de pintura que se instauró en Málaga cuando los grandes almacenes se instalaron en la ciudad. Estaba muy bien dotado y esto me sirvió para viajar durante un año. Tras este tiempo tomé la determinación de no ir a estudiar bellas artes a Sevilla como pretendía y dedicarme solo a pintar. Aquel cuadro que se llamaba: "Espasmos en el Bus". Fue el ticket para entrar a la montaña rusa que ya dura cuatro décadas y de la que no tengo intención de bajar.

Painting for me has always been my learning tool, through painting I´ve connected with the background knowledge. For a long time, I´ve extrapolated what emerges from painting itself to grasp life events. In turn, phenomenology was the inspiration motif for what it would later come in return. New methods and new understanding open doors to new processes, thus providing feedback. I´ve put my capacity to analyse to the duty of deciphering, whatever those images were telling me. They were always beyond my expectations and the things they hid, always much more deeper than I expected. My philosophical grounding is based on that idea. Attention: I´ve always thought this was the true fact. Now I´m evaluating it because I sense I´m getting closer to another way of understanding and explaining this artistic phenomenon. www.placidoromero.com
