About The Artwork
Harriet Tubman is the subject of my fourth sculpture in my Iconic Women Series. She inspired me because of her brave and extraordinary achievements in rescuing enslaved people and her work for the women's suffrage movement. I hope that people who see this sculpture will be able to see the determination and heroic aspects of her character. I chose clay because of its infinite malleability and I find that I can express more with a figurative style.

Shaun Murphy was born in Bedford, England and was raised in Great Gaddesden in Hertfordshire. He studied oil painting with Artist, Charles Garbett and sculpture with Sculptor, John Mills who was his lecturer at St Albans College of Art in England. He is now a sculptor in Frankfort, Kentucky USA and works in clay fired with glaze. He enjoys sculpting heads and has completed a unique sculpture collection of all the US Presidents. He is now sculpting a collection of Iconic Women.
