Island Sculpture

The works are part of the Master project entitled The Aesthetics of the Axis Mundi in the ancient cultures of the Pacific and its core draws on the association between the natural elements and the sacred in the primitive cultures of Oceania. My objects take the form of assemblages made out of found materials, parts of artefacts, debris produced by civilisation, with a minimal intervention on the elements that compose the works, promoting an aesthetics of simplicity and emphasizing the natural tones of the materials. I enjoy to collect these „leftovers” that once had a practical function, were useful, but now are separated from the initial object and are endowed with a special expressiveness. Nevertheless, my direction of research has its origins in the collages of Kurt Schwitters, in the sculptures of Max Ernst or in Anselm Kiefer’s paintings rather than in Trash Art.
