Notism was born in Jackson, Michigan and bred in the urban cauldron of New York City from 1980--2012. Burkhardt won over 200 creative awards between his art and ad careers. Produced Super Bowl commercials and several independent films. Traveled extensively in US and Europe. Lived in New York city, Southampton, Los Angeles, Laguna Niguel, Chicago, Detroit and Atlanta. Maintains working studios in Hamptons, NY, and Laguna Beach, CA. Founder of Notism, "Art of the Note," a new genre of contemporary American art that exalts the written word and preserves our rapidly fleeting memories--the strokes, rhythms, symbols, colors and textures of intimate human calligraphy that are now becoming extinct, replaced by electronic writing that creates gulfs between the individual and computerized communication. Burkhardt's mind-mapping work in Notism is a startling blend of A.D.D. and O.C.D. that has become its own hieroglyphic-like language, chronicling our multi-tasking schedules and society's frenetic pace. All written evidence of our struggle to create order and meaning out of chaos. In 2009, Burkhardt uncovered another breakthrough, nearly the polar opposite of Notism. He originated Earth Art hybrids, large organic canvases that create living environmental histories from the topography of the region where they were created. They form a confluence of acrylics, enamel, organic soil and rain on sun-bleached canvases, as nature adds the textures and final colorations. Selected for Who's Who in America/2006, Who's Who in the World/2007 and Who's Who in American Art/2010-11.
