About The Artwork
I created a series of Raku fired ceramic horses when I had my own kiln, several years ago. I like horses as a subject and made these stylised figures from clay then fired them with a copper glaze using the Raku method. You heat the piece to 1000 then remove it from the kiln using long tongs, plunging it first into sawdust to oxidise the glaze then into water to cool it. It's very dramatic and often catastrophic when the object explodes hitting the water! Miraculously my horses survived.
