Strangers Sculpture - Limited Edition of 8

Our bird series was conceived during the pandemic, as we experienced a massive accelerated change within the wider world and our own personal lives. Individual freedoms were compromised on a global scale. Since prehistory the bird has been humanities archetypal metaphor for freedom. Our artwork aims to capture this essence, to be understood through our own context; just like us, our birds are simultaneously in their fullness of movement and yet static, fixed in time and space. Our avian subjects are both a medium and a message. We have chosen paper as a medium as it is central to the history and cultural evolution of humankind. We are intrigued by its contradictions. It is lightweight and strong, it is versatile and enduring yet fragile at its core. It is a humble material, yet it has the ability to communicate ideas of great weight and value. From Ancient Egypt to the Bible, from Shakespeare to Darwin, the story of our species is written upon paper.
