This Thames glass fish is made with fragments of glass collected along the Thames foreshore. The Thames has been used as a rubbish receptacle since London began and so consequently there is a lot of glass in it! Most of the glass used has been washed and smoothed in the tide for well over 100 years. Each fragment has its own secret story. I love to imagine where each piece comes from. Does it come from a Victorian pharmacy bottle or a glass in an old Tavern in the City of London? The glass fragments are securely glued to a clear acrylic backing. There is a hook and wire on the back so that it can be hung on the wall. It can also come with a small plastic stand if desired such as the one in the first photo.

I am a self-taught artist with a passion for using found objects in my artwork. The objects I use have been collected along the banks of the River Thames and the River Medway. As a Thames mudlark, I discover objects daily with a story behind them and I love the idea of giving these lost or discarded objects new life in a piece of art. Each item I use has a past history and a secret story. I like for the person looking at the artwork to see beyond the superficial nature of the art, and for their imagination to go on a journey as they imagine the person who last touched that clay pipe, or where the fragment of glass or pottery came from.
