About The Artwork

To see the sublimity in life, painted wood, 2008 ------ Lo scultore ha tradotto in scultura un desiderio: vedere, appunto, la sublimità della vita. _Silvana Comelli

THE SPACE WITHOUT A SCULPTURE IS LIKE A BODY WITHOUT A SOUL! ARTWORK In my artistic research I seeks to tell my own story, my experiences, personal responses and feelings, as well as those of people and situations I encounters in my daily life. I like to use traditional hand tools, such as the chisel on stone that leaves a unique trail, a personal mark which transmits a human strength to the sculpture and infinitely reflects the sculptor's thoughts in the stone. I love working with white marble - Lasa, Carrara, or Sivec, not polishing them to perfection, sanding them, but leaving the surfaces soft, flowing or wavy, so that they all attract and encourage the desire to touch and caress the shape of the sculpture. My artwork continuously connects with touch, the oldest of the evolutionary senses. It inspires the connection to truth, love, peace, honesty, and sensuality while being much more telling than verbal or emotional communication. As well as stone and marble I work in the classic materials of bronze, wood and ceramics.. Currently I'm a member of the artistic association Prologo from Gorizia, Italy. I live and works nearby in Nova Gorica, Slovenia. www.damjankomel.com
