About The Artwork
"Umbilical" is a soft sculpture made out of textile from discarded clothes of mine. The colors and textures of the cloths represent the memory of who I once were. They were my shield and the assertion of my identity. The object is made of two forms engaging with each other, a soft cord - non structural coming from the inside out - and a firm graphic cube - the dynamic protective outside. Their relationship - concave vs. convexe or fragile vs. protective - is a reflection on duality, on how the qualities of the interactions can engender infinite possibilities.
