Ever since my childhood I have always been inspired by nature; its colours, forms and ever-changing light. As an architect, I was immersed in rational architectural disciplines and yearned to work with freer, more spiritual forms. I fulfilled my desire by starting to work with clay at a ceramics studio, focusing on the study of texture and colour. Exploring further afield, I became more interested in the use of softer textures and materials and began to work with mixed media primarily using textile, cotton and paint. Taking inspiration from architecture and my work in ceramics, I introduced a third dimension to my textile work, casting shadows and creating a distinct foreground for 3D objects and a background condition. Mainly inspired by our everyday surroundings, my work seeks to combine the ordinary with the extraordinary; a reflection of nature itself. Some of my pieces contain simpler material and colour combinations, while others seek greater intricacy and complexity.
