About The Artwork

Fragments are used to bring the text into space under the codes of sculpture. There is the matter (brass) worked (carved, bent, straightened, polished), and in this matter, letters taken away by punch. The text is confronted with the three dimensions of matter. Fragments act as a line of writing. An imaginary line would have only a single dimension. But they are not just a line of writing, they are also a material object with four sides. Each side being a different plane on which is inscribed a piece of text taken from here and there, and that will be read before or after those of the other faces. By reading, a sentence is constructed. Fragments are grouped by Mysteries. Detached, the fragment is autonomous. It is necessary and sufficient to make sense. However, as part of the Mystery which it belongs, the Fragment has the value of a Clue. Combined with other Clues, it constitute a system whose shape, or rather all possible shapes (resulting from multiple combinations), is also the one of the Mystery called by the text.
