About The Artwork

Myself with my trolley. As A child I would play on an identical 'See-Saw' trolley behind my father's Off-Licence in North London. I suppressed these memories for nearly 20 years until I stumbled upon the exact same model, causing memories to flood back instantly. See-Saw is also a play on words, Past and Present tense, appropriating and re-appropriating. The trolley which once symbolised trauma and painful memories, now houses positive memories from the degree show performances and multiple journeys I have made with my trolley from Byam Shaw (Old), to Kings Cross (New). The whole site at Kings Cross plays heavily with the idea of old and new and this too, is another point of reference. The trolley acts as a Mobile Gallery, or a kind of Imaginarium. There are many fold up platforms/plinths that at any moment i can flip out and start assembling sculptures. I then ask the public to join me in assembling.
