In my series Contemporary Icons I created "Ode to Our Mother: It is a hand-made photo-montaged portrait of the archetype of an old wise mother. She wears a tiara with ornaments, grapes and the Moon; symbols of her gifts and offerings. Led by my passion for theatre and the human soul, I use photomontage to create unique, mysterious portraits of familiar everyday faces, where I shed light into the sinews of their being. I strive to merge fantasy and reality in each composition, to blaze parallel paths to the viewer's perception and the subject's deciphered sensibility. The resulting images display new faces that come to life and lead us to the dreamland of human emotions. This series of photomontages is inspired by Carl Jung's theory of archetypes and the avant-garde collage work of Hannah Hoch and John Stezaker.

I am an artist, art educator and writer, with a strong intellectual and spiritual focus. I am intrigued by the human potential movement and self-actualization. This inspires my art greatly; who people are, what their inner world looks like and how they project themselves in the world outside. I love surrealism, fantasy and fairy tales. I was born and raised in the Netherlands, went to live in Greece in 1985. In January 2020 I published a book "From Art to Empowerment: How Women Can Develop Artistic Voice", an insightful, hands-on workbook that takes women on an empowering journey of self-discovery through artistic expression. At the moment I am in the process of researching the space between art, psychology and spirituality; I am interested in the amalgamation of these three. I am especially interested in the role the imagination plays as a key human capacity and how art-making can foster self-awareness, personal growth and ultimately self-healing. I am developing new teaching material on the subject Art as Self-discovery, and I am making new work on the theme "Enlightened Women", in the sense of "speaking one's truth" (Kant) and ultimate individuation (Jung).
