This is my machine. I created it to change fish into birds. The story is about the meaning of life. in nearly forty years of work the machine freed thousands of birds some flew far away and never returned for these are volatile beings who need all the Universe to sustain themselves whose life means nothing if it is not full without limits others soared and pierced imaginary clouds that surround the sky at times they descended to collect seed particles that the machine continuously releases some flew a helical motion although they knew they could fly as they wished they never went so far and are thus processed again perhaps one day they will join those who soared those who stay and cannot free themselves from the machine remain as sustenance after the fishes they fly below the waves and attract us to be processed and freed again in an endless cycle... until one day all will become as those who never returned ONE OF THESE DAYS I WILL TURN OFF THE MACHINE Watch the video at vimeo: https://vimeo.com/328854815 [image and text > álvaro de mendonça tlanslation by Mark Brook music > ensemble pamplemousse image treatment > amphoto.pt original draw > chinese ink and watercolor on paper | 50x35 | am 1982]
