About The Artwork

Charcoal on paper (Canson C à grain, 224 grs.) This is the first work from the Foggy Memories series. These works are born from the purest chance. There are no sketches, models or previous ideas. Just a blank space broken up with unplanned smudges or lines of charcoal. When I start to intervene on the canvas, I have no clue how it will end. I don't even suspect where it's going. After that beginning, a work of both action and contemplation begins. What happens in my drawings is a dialogue between these improvised forms and the rational responses that arise in front of them. The result is a set of images that navigate between abstraction and figuration. Accidental stains become concrete forms where materials, shapes, volumes, spaces and textures can be suspected: parts of armor, ruined architecture, vegetation... The origin of this accumulation of images is uncertain to me, but the apparently disorganized way in which they arise forces me to look at them and think about them again and again. Maybe they are blurry memories, maybe they are dreams, fears or desires. It's probably a little bit of all of that. The reason why, perhaps, I will find along the way.

My work has always been a big mystery for me. The images appear and impose themselves without me being able to know from where or why. This leads me to a permanent exercise of discovery and interpretation of my works and, therefore, of myself that excites me and challenges me in equal measure.
