About The Artwork

Acrylic Paint on stretched linen, ready to hang. Signed on the front. Still life with fish. From " My Table " series of paintings.Painting bread is a challenge. Almost like painting portraits. This is a painting of bread from my local baker. Bread is a basic food in many countries of the world. It is not only a nourishment for the body but also it symbolises a spiritual power. I just like it as an painting object. It has a similar tonal values to a human flesh. Painting still life puts me into meditative state of mind probably more than painting other subjects. I hope that it has translated onto canvas.

Born in Croatia in 1958, Tony Belobrajdic is a Sydney based figurative artist. He started exhibiting in the late seventies and had his first solo show in 1983 in Croatia. Tony moved to New York in 1987 where he continued his art practice. He exhibits both in Sydney and Europe regularly. Acrylics, watercolours and oils have been the mediums of choice. Etchings is the latest medium being explored and studied with a great passion. His style could be described as contemporary impressionism, mostly portraits and figures. Tony's artwork demonstrates distinct freedom using spontaneous brushstrokes and vivid colours. He combines layered figuration of human forms put in abstract situations.
