About The Artwork

Stark in its concept this painting drags you into the fragility and beauty of life. At odds with the initial perception of the image is the delicacy and rarity of individuality. Light plays a strong role in this painting that only a dark image can provide, giving this tiny creature a moment in the spotlight to be observed for all that it is. Mark making goes from bold violent brushstrokes to the most delicate of feathering in an attempt to reveal the beauty found and profound wish for it to be shared. Jack is one of several of our ‘inner family’, beckynewellart. Living with Dissociative Identity Disorder, as a result of extreme childhood trauma, several personalities live within one body each finding talents of their own. Jack, Fi, Elby and sometimes Tom are creative. Jack’s work is particularly notable for his in-depth self reflection, unflinching honesty and quality of fine art. Jack said about this painting : Painted as the first of my expressions of complex post traumatic stress disorder this became far more than it set out to be. I was challenged by an excellent artist friend of mine, Jo Keeley, to paint the next thing I found beautiful without even thinking about it! The next day my cat left this on our mat! I began painting. As I painted it reminded me of where I was, broken and at an end. I felt utter compassion for this fragile little thing but could see what vitality and beauty it had bought to this world. I connected with it in so many ways as I began my journey through flashbacks and brokenness, and what seemed then, an ending.
