About The Artwork

There are those times when we just can not face things alone. Learning to accept help is not always as simple as it sounds. It has taken me a very long time to learn to accept, sometimes begrudgingly, the help I have obviously needed. What is more I am learning to ask for the help I need myself too. I did this painting. When I was asked, as I sometimes am, by my rather brilliantly therapist ‘whats the shape of the landscape?’ I knew I was staring into a well of fear that I couldn't wade through alone. Learning that help felt restorative and good, trustworthy, was an important lesson in life. I don't think I'm alone in finding it hard to ask for help, or in receiving it gracefully. It's a skill routed in trust and I know that many people need encouragement to stand at that well. Blue is somehow a ‘safe’ colour for us and in particular this blue. I am using a combination of pastels, charcoal and acrylic more and more in my work to find the freedom and subtlety I want.
