This guardian is called “Shachihoko.” It is a Japanese mythical creature that has a tiger head and fish body, and it creates waves and rains. Shachihoko is considered as a charm of fire protection of Japanese castles. Shachihokos are rarely seen in the art or even illustrated in stories. In consequence, most people outside of Japan don’t know of their existence. This is why I had a desire to give birth to the magnificent Shachihoko as a Japanese artist.

Yuko Montgomery is a Japanese artist living in Nagasaki Japan where is surrounded by magnificent nature. The beauty of nature deeply inspires her artistic creations. Montgomery studied oil painting at Tama art university in Tokyo. Through a realistic and photorealistic style, Montgomery channels her enthusiasm for universal beauty onto canvas. Employing academic oil painting techniques in the creations of her pieces, she believes that oil gives life to her art because the medium "works inquisitively as if it has its spirit". Her works are housed in private collections around the world.
