Bio: I am originally from the High Desert region of Southern California. I moved to West Los Angeles in my early-twenties to study Fine Arts at Otis College of Art and Design. In 2008 I relocated to Central New York and completed my Bachelor of Fine Arts at Syracuse University. My work meditates on the formal arrangement of rhythmic curvilinear and stringent rectilinear design illustrating various social interactions. Exploring the nuance of perception and response in the personal relationships I experience, ranging from people I am deeply emotionally attached to, to complete strangers. Many times nature will present itself in my line work due to its presence in my everyday life, reflecting its effect upon my psyche. My line work defines an experience or interaction between one or more beings and the physical environment the moment exists in. Some pieces address how we have distanced and separated ourselves from nature, our first home. Thus creating a sort of underlying diasaporic frenzy in our underlying senses and experiences. The background arrangement of my paintings are intended to set the mood of the interaction I am exploring. I often use loose applications of specific color to create form and character, frequently highlighting observed beauty with iridescence. This background sets the emotional tone that the painting is examining. My practice researches the shifts in emotional discourse, from one person to the next. Examining emotional interactions as well as the emotional setting and physical place these interactions exists in. Observing distance, passion, uncertainty, mutual perception, affection, instinctual nurturing, destruction, curiosity and peace, my work explores the many different kinds of relationships and interactions I experience. Other interests include: Photojournalism, reading, writing, gardening, hiking. Some of my influences include: Kahlil Gibran, Edgar Degas, Salvador Dali, Odilon Redon, Edvard Munch, Cultural Anthropology, Architecture, nature, NPR, music, my husband and children. Dear Reader, Thank you for taking the time to view my work and experience my observations. Warm Regards, Jessica Olech 315.632.0126 jessolech@gmail.com
