About The Artwork
This piece is inspired by the Hamar woman. Their culture and tradition equally fascinates and saddens me simultaneously. The women endure whipping and beatings from early on and it's frowned upon to ever show weakness during that time. It was said the husband does not need to disclose a reason for a beating, but if it was severe then elders would intervene. I came across this woman and she had a look of strength, determination and slightly rebellious in her eyes. Rebellious enough to be angry or maybe it's me in her shoes and I just saw RED.
