About The Artwork

The wonder of spring served as inspiration for this beautiful 12" x 9" original oil painting. The essence of spring is something I love to capture this time of year in my paintings. As a flower lover and amateur gardener the powerful, majestic colors that begin to emerge fuel a sense of excitement and joy. In this contemporary still life I loved working with wonderfully saturated colors in an array of violets, blues, yellows, pinks and whites. Thoughtfully adding in some dynamic yellow, oranges and green in through the fruit. Simplifying the visual story is important to me and using purposeful lines to create space for the objects innate design to come through in a way that is new. This painting was created on a masonite panel in oils. The artwork is a signed original that is ready for framing. I have included a photo of the painting framed for suggestion only.

ARTISTS STATEMENT: I observe, and participate in, the change of hues. I stand alone in a perspective—influenced by the roads and detours that I’ve chosen. The subjects I interpret on canvas dance with tradition, but underneath exists an individual search for freedom. As a creator, I’ve always been interested in working with color. I see my life as having a palette of its own and I seek to have the chroma of my experiences come through in my paintings. Over time, I’ve realized the only way to achieve this goal is to risk exposure—to unveil my simplified forms to the viewer. Whether the forms operate within the context of landscape or still life, the resulting narrative is always a story of merit, regardless of public perception or understanding. BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION: I was born in Vancouver, BC in 1958 and then moved to California which is where my parents originally met. I lived there until I was 6 when my family moved across the US to New Jersey for my father's work. I grew up in a creative family and pursued art in college only to leave it upon graduation, dabbling with it over the years that followed. In 2010 I returned to painting on a more committed basis. This was spawned by some significant life changes and painting became my respite. I still reside in New Jersey and as an artist I appreciate the proximity to both Philadelphia and New York City. I've been showing my work since 2011 and continue to do so.
