Still Life with Bust and Piano Print

This painting depicts the inside of a studio and all the objects an artist or musician would need to draw their inspiration from, but it could just as easily depict the mad random thoughts that often occur inside my head. The inspiration for this piece came from the cubist works of Picasso, Georges Braque and the wonderful Juan Gris, who is often referred to as the 'third cubist'. It is a digital collage of a number of my earlier acrylic paintings and drawings, where I have extracted complementary elements of each to build up the layers for the final image you see here. The original base painting that makes up the majority of the work is more colorful than this, but I wasn't happy with it, and knew that there was something else in there that I could extract with a little more effort - well actually, a lot more effort. Shades of raw umber dominate the piece with tints of grey and ochre to liven the palette, in keeping with the colors of the cubist pictures of old.
