The endless passing of time Print

The painting was inspired by an old photo with my mother as a little girl, my grandmother, my grandmother's sister and my great-grandmother. I was intrigued by the fact that there was no man in the picture and so I remembered a story my mother told me, that my grandfather had fought in World War II and had been injured. The wound never completely healed and he died before my mother was born, so she didn't get to know him. This is how I came to paint my great-grandfather with these women, for whom his absence was significant. The painting tells the story of those forced to fight in war even though they were not soldiers, of those who left behind a gap that the cruel time tries to cover by forgetting.
