Oil painting of a still from Wender's film 'Wings of Desire'. The still is a black and white image of Solveig Dolmartin on a trapeze. It comes from a section of the movie shot in black in white. The movie changes to colour once the hero, an angel, sacrifices his immortality for the joys of mortal sensation. His motive for doing so is his fascination for the impossible dreaming (and briefly blossoming beauty) of the trapeze artist, who works in the circus as an escape from the real life of our modern world. I have chosen to paint the figure in the colours of a sunrise to encapsulate this idea of the meaning of life being contained in the transient nature of our animated body
