About The Artwork
This new piece is from a series called, White-Washing Time. After receiving several white washed canvases by the family of artist Judith Roth, I had the honor and pressure to "paint" over her work. These were pieces she told her family that she did not want seen, but her family could not throw them away. Therefore, I have tried to channel her strength, talent and energy as I paint over hers, leaving traces as if it is our "collaboration." It is a piece about holding onto what makes us whole and human.

I have been a working artist for over 20 years. After growing up outside of Chicago, I moved to New York, where I received my master's of art from the prestigious program through NYU and the International Center of Photography. When I returned to Chicago, I continued to work on my art, writing and curating all while raising 4 kids. My work focuses on the effects of genetics, the mother/daughter relationships, and the body. I explore themes of cancer as a metaphor in my own work as well as the biennial exhibit I curate, Voices & Visions, Standing on the Bridge Between Health and Disease. The mind, body and spirit connections and separations echo the theme in art that out of darkness comes light.
