Portrait of a man, dressed as a "betyar" in traditional costume in Southern Hungary. The concept was to mix the atmosphere of the wild west and the traditional Hungarian folklore in a single portrait. The "betyárs", were the highwaymen of the 19th century Kingdom of Hungary. The "betyár" word is the Hungarian version of "Social Bandit". Several betyárs have become legendary figures who in the public mind fought for social justice. Hungary
Award-winning photographer from Budapest, Hungary, focusing on folklore, cultural heritage and visual storytelling. In love with folklore and cultural heritage as well as the often invisible or unknown life(style) of communities. My cultural heritage-related works have been published numerous times in National Geographic and NatGeo Travel, VICE Media, La Societé and many more online and print media. Currently working on a long-term cultural project in the Carpathian basin region (Central and Eastern Europe). The project focuses on the slowly disappearing traditional rural shepherd lifestyle.
