Lily Ann Altman

Lily Ann Altman is a storyteller, often creating series of drawings or supersized cartoons, which are then numbered Artwork I, Artwork II, Artwork III etc.
Her work is ink or pencil and charcoal on paper.

She has been experimenting with contemporary art since 2013, originally being schooled in classical music. "Observing fine detail is a habit, transcending the medium. Most artists are Michelangelo's to some degree and they try to speak different languages of art out of a need of expression. And whatever the medium, it's about emotions. Reducing reality to a minimalist piece of art in order to show the essence is the exact same thing as playing a complicated piano passage in a simple way.

I always ask myself the question: why would anyone want to look at my art? Ideally there has to be a story behind the work that will move you or make you think or laugh.That is I think what should be the aim of any form of art."
