Margo Van Der Pool

I started working around the ‘Light’ theme in 2010 when I was doing a Masters in Art Education In Amsterdam. Working together in a project involving overheadprojectors and film we put a lightbulp underneath the light of the overheadprojector together with a shape that looked almost like an angel. When during the art-filosofy course Plato, who had labelled art into mimesis ( in which art is a simulation or copy of real life which in itself is a copy of the highest; The World of Idea, the divine) was discussed, a connection was made and the idea of the flying light was born……. Light as a concept in its own right. Light which is light, and not…. Light which is not heavy,and not…Light not taking it to heavy, not seriously and not… Light as a lightbulp that tries to copy the ‘big and pure and divine light from which everything has sprung’. On top of that it wants to be and do right…. to illuminate. A lightbulp that gives light, isn’t light , generates light but can’t fly.

Projecting human aspects to non living things interests me. Developing empathy on an artificial basis.
