But I thought you said you loved me! In this series, I was interested in how one views the concept of the self and their investigation of one’s relation to personal freedom and the universe. The simplicity and the directness of these drawings will simultaneously communicate the complexity of transition from life to death, and its various associations with beauty and violence. On a personal note, these works are a tribute to my mother who passed away in 2019. Through the process of abstraction, these works allow the viewers a greater conceptual distance and involve them in capturing a sense of depth in this luminous void we are part of. The series won the Helen Frankenthaler Fellowship 2020 from the Vermont Arts Center.
