The face we can imagine has not only physical sides but also aura which reflects the inner world. In this context, the art-works of KIM MIN KI focus on "Gyeol" that is hidden behind people`s faces. The dictionary definition of "Gyeol" is the knitted pattern formed by consistent ply. It implies the "journey of lines" and plays a role as the visual language which leads to the theme of the work. The process would be the journey of KIM MIN KI as well as your journey to explore the introvert geography. The elements of art for the drawings on display are the repetitively drawn lines. The lines that seem to express the contour of geographical height cover parts of the face or neck or the whole canvas. The construction of these lines with the strained and rhythmic power implies the mental geography through metaphorical expression to help symbolize the human`s psychological and emotional changes. The trajectory of this work starts from paper and pen. The point that the realism of the initial stage of a concept is exposed to the audiences and that the consonants and vowels of real people`s names are written separately as piece titles leave the viewer his or her own imagination, expanding two-dimensional space time. Also, the lines are the course of storytelling. Through the repetitive process of drawing lines, a new image is created, overlapping with the originally intended image. The continuous condensation and rapture of drawing lines on the canvas organize and disorganize the certain figuration. The artist expresses simultaneously both the inner conflict arising from tactic discipline and the free will for overcoming it through drawing lines. By doing this, he experiences the process of self-healing. Labor intensive process plays a role as the psychological tool which records the flow of consciousness. KIM MIN KI who majored in sculpture, and has been working mainly on three-dimensional structures, could commune with his art-works through flexible thinking by using lines that have no limits on space and two dimensional works on flat surfaces that allows the creation of whatever color one wants. Just as the contour that indicates the immovable landform can be changed over many years, it would also take quite a long time for humans living under the rules of life to accept change. The lines which have a consistent pattern amongst the systematic flow closely resemble the inner world of humans. The artist delivers the positive message with self consolation that the inner "Gyeol" will find its own place as the layers of time pile up. His work portraying anonymous or named faces is the topographic map for himself, showing his will to contemplate the inner contour composed of anxiety and hope with a slow tempo. The lyrical faces coming from the subtle waves of the lines not only throw the audience into confusion but also make viewers be immersed in them, willingly making them leave on their own journey. It can be the journey toward the individual`s cosmos as well as the society the individuals are in.
