Malgosia Stepnik Born in Poland. Lives and works in London. The Polish born artist, Malgosia Stepnik grew up in a small village in South-West Poland. Her early years were spent surrounded by wild life, rugged mountains and woodland. By the age of 13 she was introduced to art as she observed in awe as one of her friends was painting. This early experience sowed the seed of a secret desire to become an artist. By the age of 15 Malgosia completed her first painting, comprising of her now-signature circular forms, shapes and strong colours. With the mission of becoming an artist now steadfastly in her mind Malgosia quit her studies in Psychology in 1998 and left Poland. Moving to Paris, and soon after to London, frequenting the art galleries and familiarizing herself with the creative hotspots of both cultural capitals. In 2002 Malgosia was the first Polish person to graduate from Christie's Modern and Contemporary Art Studies. During her studies she met some very inspiring and successful female personalities. "Meeting women like Lizzie Perotte, the director of The Modern and Contemporary Art Studies, made me realize that I can achieve my dreams and my independence by pursuing my art." In 2003 she started Foundation Course in the Chelsea Collage of Art and Design in London, where she did Fashion Design, Sculpture, Painting and Mixed Media. In 2004 she dropped out of Chelsea and moved to Paris, where she rented a studio near Ecole des Beaux-Arts, and so began her development of the style and expression of her body of art. In years 2004-2006 Malgosia explored different means of art and experimented with painting, writing, interior design and fashion design. In 2006 she enrolled on a BA in Fine Arts Painting at City and Guilds London College of Art, graduating in 2008 with a First-Class Degree in Fine Arts. The study of psychology, neurology and the semantics of human interaction underpins the personal journey artist explores throughout her work. She describes the motivation behind her work as an aim to encourage people to look beyond what they see and know and what they have been taught to believe. " It's all about the journey of the mind. What fascinates me is how each person I met, has a different perception and understanding of their personal and shared experiences. My great desire is to challenge perceptions.
