ABOUT THE ARTWORK

For years I have been exploring the figure through yoga poses. Slowly, as my work evolves, the strokes have become broader and the figures less defined. I am focusing more on light and shadow, rather than the lines of the body. The palette is messy and dirty, yet somehow still a reflection of the bright Caribbean. As I walk around outside every morning, I photograph the trees and flowers that speak to me. Sometimes I painted the yogi first, and sometimes I started with the flowers. I let the work evolve and change as it wants to. I did not plan the compositions, the poses, or the colors. I let them all unfold when I put paintbrush to canvas, focusing on feeling more than thinking.
