About The Artwork
This painting was inspired by the quiet protectiveness of this cow towards her calf as they lie down resting in peace together. This is an oil painting on stretched canvas. My process is to draw the subject on the canvas then work in layers of color, alternating thin transparent layers and thicker opaque layers. I like to develop a varied texture of rich colors and brushstrokes for a vibrant, juicy glow.

My father was a veterinarian, and we always had many animals underfoot. I draw my artistic inspiration mainly from observing and interacting with animals. I especially enjoy painting animals in relationships with each other.
