Calendar Prototype Painting

This painting is the first of a series of paintings based on Medieval Illuminated Manuscripts, specifically on the Black Book of Hours (XV century). The books of hours were commissioned by rich people to insert in their daily lives the ecclesiastical hours and praying times. Among the religious images, there were also images of relevant events in the life of the person who commissioned the book. – Inspired by this, I made this and 12 other paintings of the same size (1,40m x 1,80m) without stretcher, using the format of the calendars we use nowadays. I made an image for each month of the year derived from my own personal experiences during that period of time. As a reference, I used the same palette as the rare Black Books of Hours, with its black dyed papers.
