I find myself somewhere between pop art and realism, and my art looks at society with a touch of irony. The symbols we identify with, the characters we build in our heads and the objects that come from the consumerist culture are all sources for my inspiration. The contrasts that are the integral parts of my paintings are first and foremost a metaphor for my observations that I dress up under a candy-colored palette. I believe that the difference between beauty and ugliness is only a matter of judgment, and my intention is to incite the viewer to think. At the end of the day, all I want to do is to make you smile. Bio: Valérie is a Canadian painter, hailing from Montreal, whose creative pictorial vision has been shaped through the many forms of art that have influenced her over the years, be it dance, ceramics, sculpture or illustration. She started painting at the age of 10 and spent most of her twenties exploring different medias and techniques, trying to find the right fit for her creativity. Thanks to her training as a graphic artist and her studies in fashion design, she has internalized additional techniques that have enabled her to polish her aesthetic sense.
