Sung Lee is an artist from Korea currently living and working in Maryland, USA. He graduated from Gangneung National University in South Korea with a major in painting and a minor in sculpture. He has been writing art criticism articles for daily newspapers for nearly a decade and has also won a Korean War Monument Design Competition and built a monument. After immigrating to the United States, he painted murals inside the FBI building and participated in three individual exhibitions and many group exhibitions. These various life experiences became the foundation of his life and art. The artwork is painted using traditional techniques and materials. However, he also uses unconventional materials such as stone powders, papers, woods, and sand. He constantly seeks and discovers the unknown in the universe. The reason he chose abstraction as a way to express his artistic point of view was that he did not want his paintings to simply mimic reality. He wants his work to capture the hidden beauty and balance of nature. All of these creative acts are natural and emotional processes. The artist hopes that the viewer can freely use their imagination to draw their own conclusions without having preconceived. it's a notions based on the form of the artwork itself.
