About The Artwork

This piece was inspired by my elderly neighbor who is a lovely human being. He is also feisty and is a survivor. This is dedicated to him after staying strong for so long. The name is connected to a wonderful piece of street art in Rome that we had come across. I felt the name fit the vibe of the painting. This piece is edge framed in white pine wood and is ready to hang.

ARTWORK TEMPORARILY UNAVAILABLE. I am currently moving to Portugal in April of 2024. The current artworks for sale on Saatchi are currently on a crate heading to Europe and will not be available until summer of 2024 as they are processed through customs in Europe and unpacking begins. Please contact Eric with any inquiries: sleepingdogslie@yahoo.com Eric Guenette is an abstract mixed media painter in Albuquerque, New Mexico (soon to be Portugal). He works in latex, acrylic, spray paint, oil markers and ink on canvas. He also paints primarily with scraps of cut wood and rarely uses brushes. Guenette constructs his own structural frames, stretches the canvas and finishes most of the pieces with clean and simple white wood framing. “I feel a strong connection to my grandfather, Marcel, who was a custom golf shoe maker at Footjoy for most of his life in Brockton, Massachusetts. He was a man that could build anything with his hands. I draw upon his spirit as I am working on pieces in my studio garage in the heat and dust. His can-do blue collar work ethic inspires my use of latex paint. Painting with wood scraps takes me back to his old wood shop and gives me a tactile sense of working with natural tools and injecting random imperfections into my pieces. The angled cuts on the scrapers allow for a repetitious motion to scrape and re-apply paint quickly in the same movement, depending on the angle of the stroke. I hope to carry his determined spirit on in my work.” –Eric Guenette Guenette was born in Winter Park, Florida (1967) and grew up in Palm Beach County, Florida area until he moved to Albuquerque in 2009. As a creative, songwriter/guitarist and graphic designer, Guenette first began his painting exploration in the late 1990s and garnered an appreciation for the boundless space that the canvas provided, unlike any other creative medium that he had come across. This fascination led him to years of curious artistic exploring with a variety of styles, until he found a home in the abstract realm. Guenette also works as a professional freelance graphic designer after moving to Albuquerque. His business, New Mexico Creative, supported a variety of clients over his 20+ year career in the field. Some of Guenette's influences are Rob Szot, Roger Green, Dorothy Fratt, Christopher Wool, Laurie Heinz, and David Ostrowski.
