Angelina Mirabito is an Italian-Australian action artist based in Melbourne. Her artistic process is a unique blend of rawness and sophistication. Her conventional education, including a PhD in the therapeutic value of creative writing, has shaped her self-taught approach to visual art. She has discovered that by using colour on canvas, she can express what words often fail to convey by communicating with palette knives. Angelina seeks to create on canvas an experience of connection with one’s inner life and feelings of inner beauty and resolution. Each painting begins with an emotion or confusion that is meditated on through painting with palette knives that cut through silence, struggle and limitation. She keeps painting until the inner obstacle is resolved and transformed through colour on canvas. The painting is complete in that moment of recognition that the canvas now reflects what she finds impossible to explain and peaceful to behold. Angelina's work and passion extend beyond the canvas and written word. She is deeply committed to expanding awareness of invisible disabilities in ways that hopefully empower people who struggle to navigate life alongside the effects of complex post-traumatic stress disorder. She believes that the presence of art can make a positive difference and transform how we can experience public and private spaces.
