I was born in Bulgaria to a father who was a trained artist. I started to paint and took music lessons at a very early age. Painting without any formal training was a challenging way to discover myself, my way of thinking and of self-expression. For this reason, I consider myself to be a self-taught artist. Continuing to paint while staying aloof from art schools, I completed studies in Economics and in 1990 I moved to Germany. Migrating from Eastern Europe was a formative experience culturally and artistically. I became fascinated with Bauhaus, Kandinsky, Hundertwasser, and with the power of simplicity and of the spiritual in art. I started exhibiting my paintings in the street during Christmas Markets. This experience became a wonderful opportunity to share my visions and opinions about art with a variety of people. Life in Germany gave me perseverance, fuelled an insatiable desire to find news means of self-expression, and opened me to modern thought. For the past 20 years, I have been living and working as a graphic designer in Montreal all the while continuing to paint and experimenting with different media. //////////////////////////////////////////Statement//////////////////////////////// My art is based on improvisation. I seek a formally surprising, aesthetically beautiful and timeless art. I believe that in order to possess such qualities a painting must remain to a certain extent unfinished. It should evolve and find completion imaginatively, through the viewer who gives it life. Even painting, in this sense, is a profoundly participatory art form, the means through which artist and spectator enter into dialogue.
