Alessandro Abruscato (1983), also known as Abal, is an Italian painter currently living in Novara (Milan area). Since his youth, he has nurtured a deep passion for art and literature and in 2020 he decided to devote himself to painting, without following a formal academic path. Abal's painting is distinguished by its figurative style and use of bright, intense colors. Each work is born from a drawing that represents real or imaginary subjects, people and places. The rapid and irrational graphic stroke is transformed into a dynamic and expressive painting thanks to the use of vibrant colors. For Abal, color is the medium through which he expresses his inner emotions, such as happiness, pain, melancholy, and explores human fragilties and supernatural forces that rule the world. His works are rich in symbolic and evocative meanings, which lead beyond the representation of reality, towards the mysterious and interiority. From a stylistic and thematic point of view, his painting pays homage to some historical movements of figurative art, including Fauvism, expressionism and naïve art. In particular, among the artists who have influenced his work there are Antonio Ligabue, for his passion for nature and the animal world expressed through a strong gesture marked by a rapid and decisive stroke, Salvador Dalì, for his imaginative and surrealistic vision of the world, and Pablo Picasso for his ability to show the multiple identities of the subjects, transforming their faces into abstract and deformed shapes. Abal is also a multidisciplinary artist, who has experimented in other fields besides painting. Since 2021 he has founded together with the economist Debora Cuccaro an activity dedicated to the dialogue between the world of art and that of fashion: ABAL FashionArt, conceiving the fabric as a new material through which to express one's creativity. In 2022 two works by the artist entered, following a donation, in the collections of the Fondazione Il Vittoriale degli Italiani in Gardone Riviera.
