In 2003, a new artform, Digital Painting was launched in Norway and it was soon called Digitalism. These paintings shown here are made by Norwegian artist Renming Cheng with the help of computer software. Cheng is the first artist in Europe to launch Digital Painting and had his one man exhibition in a public cultural centre. In 2003 more than 40 Digital Paintings were shown to the public Sola Culture Centre in Stavanger, Norway for the first time. Since then Cheng and others in the new digital art movement have been active in Europe and their motive is to change the landscape of art in Europe. Cheng is a Chinese artist living in Norway. Having worked as businessman, journalist, teacher, guide, business consultant, freelance writer, and finally artist, he always finds the environment hostile and life challenging. Cheng was unemployed for many years in Norway after 11 years of university education. He had never studied art before but all of a sudden he started to have art exhibitions in Norway, England and France, including twice at the prestigious Oslo City Hall Gallery. In summer 2009, it was the first time for Cheng to apply to the most important art exhibition in Norway, - The Autumn Exhibition, and he was chosen as one of the 140 artists candidates from 1750 artists and their 4500 artwork by the Jury. This was considered an achievement. In November 2009, Cheng's painting was shown in the prestigious Salon D'automne in Paris, where many years ago, artists like Vincent van Gogh's artwork were more than once rejected. Renming Cheng and partners invite any artists with the same motivation to join them in the new art movement - Digitalism, and use Digital Paintings like these to dedicate to the 21st century, and to pronounce the death of modern Nihilism which has been taking away creativity from fine art and replaced it with commercialism, meaninglessness and pervasiveness. Renming Cheng was born in Beijing, China. He has been living in Scandinavia since 1985. He started Digital Painting and Digitalism (or Digital Expressionism as he later call it) with partners and had the first Digital painting exhibition in the world in 2003. Renming Cheng's art is Abstract Expressionism, made by computer and printed on large format professional printer on canvas. His paintings sell with Worldwide Limited Edition only sells 3 canvas for each painting.
