Reflection 8 Painting

There is no individual description for this piece, it is deliberately left open to interpretation within the series titled "Solace". Solace is a series of paintings about Reflection. It originates from the Covid pandemic and is inspired by 18th Century "Grand Style" art. The portraits take solace among classical compositions using contemporary deconstructive techniques and are deliberately ambiguous and anonymous. The disfiguration in Solace is somehow more "colourful" than the previous works done while in lockdown and reflects my current state of mind. With “Reflections” I am interested in how texture relays the emotions and how the application and manipulation of it expresses the narrative. I paint with open interpretations and allow the viewer to see its own "reflections", albeit physical or mental.
