Spike is a painting I did in early 2019. It was a little betta fish that my girlfriend had and one morning her spirit flew into the sky. It was a sad moment, but I take it as a premonition of how quarantine marked us all.

I feel that the art crosses my soul. I consider myself a dynamic, curious artist with strong social criteria. For me art is more than an expression, it is the way I found to communicate with the world. Being a woman, lesbian, Latin American and an artist, I really feel responsible for communicating what is happening in this era through my unique perspective. I often wonder how I can represent the events of this time through the art. I can say that my brush speaks mostly about my personal experiences, focusing on topics such as: questions about identity, feminism, gender diversities, protests and social mobilizations, racism, xenophobia, politics, faith, etc. As a Chilean expat living in Argentina, and in a relationship with an Afro Brazilian woman, my art work also reflects the South American cultural and racial mix in which I live constantly, representing my everyday experiences, social critiques and the pluralism of cultures that surrounds me. Biography: I am originally from Santiago de Chile, I come from a humble family, but with a great spirit of progress. That motivated me to broaden my horizons and I left home at the age of 18 to study in Buenos Aires, Argentina. And my life has been quite an adventure in this city! Here I became an art professional after I graduated in Restoration and conservation of cultural property at National University of the Arts (UNA), but before that, I have studied psychology at the University of Buenos Aires (UBA). My way of seeing the world is beyond just art and aesthetics, for me being an artist is a social responsibility. I believe that all artists have as mission, to speak and represent everything that happens in the world around them. we must wake up people and raise awareness about injustices and oppressions experienced by many people daily. For me, creating is a healing processa and also a lifestyle. Every time I allow my soul to express itself, it elevates me to another world, I travel and connect with the beauty of the universe. It is a journey that paradoxically also makes me remember where I came from. My way of working begins with observing, feeling and thinking, I work with different artistic techniques from different disciplines, such as ceramics, sculpture, engraving and my favorite: Painting. I also photograph, as hobby, and often use my photographs as a tool to have a chronological order of my experiences and later paint them.
