About The Artwork

Bonnie and Clyde transposed to the tenements of Glasgow, Scotland. Strangely, the words "Bonnie" and "Clyde" are often heard in Glasgow. (The river through the city is called the Clyde and the word "bonnie" is often used in Scotland and means attractive!) The juxtaposition of the Botticelli beauty and the guns is stark and the shadowy figure lurking in the doorway to the left gives a sense of impending crisis. Bonnie and Clyde were a product of the Great Depression in the US and modern day society in the UK is becoming just as fragmented and hopeless for some.
