Those coming to the oracle weren’t anxious about whether they should make a sacrifice or not. They were anxious because they were afraid of making their sacrifice to the wrong god. And there is nothing as sad as a sacrifice made to the wrong go. So much of our lives is made up of them.”

I work in cycles and series and projects, often several concurrently, compulsively, relentlessly, trying to understand. I understand why they call it a practice now. ... It is the passing that I try to cultivate, the happening of a painting, a sensitivity to the magic of it's appearance, the music that comes through. Synesthesia. ... But there are always negotiations, and so much labor, and guessing, and questioning of intentions: the circles. My art is how I try to handle my mistakes, how I deal with pain and loss and memory, and try to make beauty from that; it is highly analytic, in this sense. ...
